Everyone loves hot chocolate, it’s one of the best things about winter. It’s just so amazingly warming and comforting, like a big hug in a mug! I know it sounds crazy but a healthy version really can taste just as incredible as the conventional recipe, honestly I think you’d never know the difference! Homemade almond milk and a little almond butter work together to make each sip so perfectly thick and creamy, while a squeeze of date syrup adds all the incredible sweetness you need and the raw cacao ensures that your drink is as chocolaty as ever. I’ve been drinking this almost everyday for the last month or so and each time it makes me so happy! It’s especially good drunk through a cinnamon stick too as the stick acts as the perfect straw and each sip is infused with subtle hints of delicious spice!
This is a super-food hot chocolate too, as the cacao gives it such an incredible boost of disease-fighting antioxidants, as well as lots of the happy-hormone serotonin, which acts as a natural mood boosting and anti-depressant! Plus the almond milk and almond butter give you lots of energising plant protein, heart healthy fats, and an incredible dose of vitamin E, which is amazing for healthy hair and glowing skin.
– 1 cup of homemade almond milk (250ml)
– 2 tablespoons of date syrup
– 2 teaspoons of raw cacao
– 1 teaspoon of almond butter
Simply place all the ingredients into a saucepan and heat gently. Keep stirring as the hot chocolate heats to ensure all the ingredients mix together and the almond butter doesn’t get stuck at the bottom. Then take the pan off the heat before it reaches boiling point to keep all the goodness in!
