Natural Beauty: My Daily Routine

Welcome to the new natural beauty section of my blog! This is something that I’ve been working on for a while, so I’m really exited to share it with all of you. Natural beauty products are really so powerful, it’s truly amazing and although the ideas and recipes that I share with you in this section may sometimes seem a little mad – just trust me, they really work! I have to admit that I’m now totally obsessed by experimenting with new concoctions and seeing what they do, it’s so much fun and I hope that you love everything I share here! I will be sharing posts on my favourite beauty ingredients and all their amazing properties (apple cider vinegar, coconut oil etc), as well as recipes for homemade treatments (face masks, exfoliators, oil pulling etc) and posts on some of the best natural beauty brands for makeup, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, skin care etc, for those of you that aren’t ready to be total hippies just yet!

If you told me five years ago that my bathroom shelves would resemble a kitchen cupboard I would never have believed you. The idea of putting coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, turmeric, honey and spirulina on my face would have seemed beyond crazy, but as I started to nurture my body with foods that it loved I started to become conscious of everything else I was doing and whether it was really the most loving thing to do for my body. The thing is we absorb about 60-70% of everything we put onto our skin into our blood stream, so if your deodorant contains aluminum (which all the non-natural ones do) then you have aluminum pumping around your body and that’s kind of gross. So over the last year or so I stopped using conventional products and developed a natural skincare routine, which I love. Not only is my skin so much better than ever before, but I’ve also saved so much money on fancy products – which means more money for dates, raw cacao and avocados!

Of course a healthy glow does come first and foremost from the inside, not just from your beautiful personalities, but from what you eat – that’s the real secret of glowing skin! For great skin we need lots of hydrating foods like cucumber and celery, lots of greens like kale and spinach and lots of good fats like avocado, nuts and coconut, plus lots of nuts and seeds for plant protein. However, there are lots of things that you can do externally to enhance the beautiful effects of your food.

I’m always trying new products but there are certain things that I use every day and that’s what I want to share with you here. In the morning I simply wash my face with warm water, if it’s feeling a little dry then I’ll use a pea sized amount of coconut oil to moisturize but otherwise I simply wash and go! I do wear makeup, but I’ll save all of that for another post and there’s so much information to share there.

In the evening I start by removing my make up with a little coconut oil, I simply rub a small amount over my eyes to take off my mascara and then around the rest of my face to remove any other make up. I then rinse my face and dry it before cleansing and toning my skin with apple cider vinegar (ACV). I’ll do a whole post on ACV as there’s so much information to share with you but to summarize – I simply add a few drops of it to a cotton pad and then wipe the pad over my face. I know that it sounds totally mad, but trust me it’s the best thing you can do for your skin! I let that sink in and then a few minutes later I moisturize with a pea-sized amount of coconut oil. I have to admit that coconut oil is hands down the best moisturizer I’ve ever used as it really gives you such a good glow.

Twice a week I exfoliate using either a sugar and salt scrub, an oatmeal scrub or a brought product and then I do a homemade facemask (blog posts coming on all of these soon with recipes and recommendations) – I find doing this twice a week does wonders for keeping my skin clear and glowing. It’s also really fun and I love how funny everyone thinks you look when your face is covered in a bright green avocado mask!

For my hair care I’m a little less hippy and do use shampoo and conditioner, although I do use a coconut oil mask once a week! I also use a fluoride free toothpaste and natural suncream when I’m in the sun – again I’ll share lengthy posts on each one of these so that you can have lots of information to start your own natural skincare regime!

As you can see I have so much awesome information to share with you here and I’m just so excited for you all to start seeing how amazing natural products are for your beautiful skin! I also just want to say now that I’m not being paid or sponsored to write any of these posts on beauty, especially the ones that will talk about certain companies and products. I simply want to share all my favourite things with you, as I know finding the right products can be so difficult and it’s impossible to know which brands are good and which aren’t as so many claim to be natural! I’m also hoping that writing these posts will answer all your questions in lots of detail so that you feel confident to explore the world of natural beauty.
